Navratri in Surat: Booking a Day Out Between the Garba Nights

Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, with Dussehra on the 20th. In Surat that is not a fortnight with a festival in it; it is a fortnight built around one.

Which means the way people book farmhouses during it is genuinely different from the rest of the year, and worth understanding if you are planning something.

Which belts work during Navratri

The distance calculation is the whole thing. Ranked by how well they fit a day booking that has to end by six:

Kamrej — the first choice

Ten properties, nine with a private pool and six with a separate kids' pool — the highest family ratio in Surat. Around thirty to forty minutes from most of the city. Day capacities go up to sixty, which covers a large extended family. This is where most Navratri day bookings in Surat land, and it is the belt that fills first.

Sevani — the depth

Thirteen properties, the largest single cluster in the city, with a very wide price range from around ₹3,300 to ₹23,000. Ten have a private pool. If Kamrej is gone, this is where you look next, and the sheer number of options means something usually remains.

Olpad — the value

Five properties, all with pools, and the lowest price band in the city. Capacities in the twelve-to-twenty range, so this suits a single family rather than a full clan gathering. HappyPlay is listed for a hundred guests by day, which makes it the outlier here.

Dumas — if the day is the point

Further out and towards the coast. Better for a Sunday that is genuinely an outing rather than a lunch squeezed between commitments. PartyPatch takes fifty by day.

The three things to settle before you book

1. Farali food

A significant share of your guests will be fasting, and farali catering is a specific requirement rather than a variation. Confirm whether the property permits outside food and whether the kitchen is available — most Surat properties allow one or both, but the ones that operate their own catering will need notice.

A related point: a good number of properties in Gujarat are vegetarian-only in any case, which during Navratri is generally an advantage rather than a constraint.

2. The day-time guest limit

Not the sleeping capacity. A Navratri family gathering is a day booking, and the day figure on a Surat listing is often two to five times the night figure. Filtering on bedrooms will hide most of what suits you.

3. Timing and the slot

If everyone needs to be back in the city by six to get ready, a full-day slot that runs to 9:00 PM is wasted money. Several Surat properties run a morning slot with an early-evening check-out, which is exactly the shape of a Navratri booking. Ask which slots the property offers rather than assuming there are only two.

And the weekend after

Worth flagging because it catches people out every year. The weekend of 23–25 October, immediately after the garba stops, is one of the hardest to book in Surat. Everyone who has spent nine nights out wants one quiet weekend, the weather in late October is the best of the year, and the overnight bookings that were suppressed for a fortnight all arrive at once.

If you want that weekend, book it now, in September — not after Dussehra, by which point the good properties in Kamrej and Sevani are taken.

After that the calendar runs into Diwali: Dhanteras on Friday 6 November and Diwali itself on Sunday 8 November. From mid-October to mid-November, Surat's inventory is effectively spoken for.

Start from all Surat properties or farmhouses and villas. For a gathering specifically, the family get-together collection and large-group list are the shortest routes, and the Diwali collection is the one to bookmark for November.

The two-slot problem, and how Surat properties solve it

The specific difficulty of a Navratri booking is that the evening is spoken for. Everyone needs to be back and changed by seven or eight, which makes a standard full-day slot running to nine at night largely wasted money.

Several Surat properties run more than the conventional two windows. A 10:00 AM check-in against a 9:00 AM check-out the next day, or a 10:00 PM check-in against a 9:00 PM check-out, are both common in this market — PartyPatch in Dumas runs exactly that structure.

For Navratri specifically, the useful pattern is the morning slot: arrive at ten or eleven, eat at one, let the children swim through the afternoon, and be on the road by five. That leaves the evening intact.

The other pattern, less obvious, is the late slot for out-of-town relatives — a 10:00 PM check-in after the garba, so the family that has travelled in has somewhere to stay without anyone driving at midnight.

Which belt, given the evening constraint

Distance decides more Navratri bookings in Surat than anything else, because the return drive is against the clock.

Kamrej and Sevani are the practical choices — thirty to forty minutes, which leaves the evening comfortable. Kamrej has the better family ratio: nine of ten properties have a private pool and six have a separate kids' pool.

Olpad works and is cheaper, with all five properties having a pool, though capacities top out lower.

Dumas and New Dandi are further and better suited to a day that is genuinely an outing rather than a lunch between commitments.

Palsana is the premium option — two properties, both at the top of the market — and worth it for a milestone gathering rather than an ordinary one.
